Elise “Butch” Wallace H’03 and Bill Bliss ’48

A Beloved Nobles Tradition

Elise Wallace and Bill BlissIn 1985, Elise “Butch” Wallace H’03 and Bill Bliss ’48 ran the Boston Marathon to raise money for scholarship at Nobles. Today, marathons have become powerful fundraising machines, but back then the idea of running and raising money was novel. This was the start of a community-wide effort known as The Elise “Butch” Wallace H’03 and Bill Bliss ’48 Marathon Fund.

After carrying on Butch and Bill’s legacy virtually the last two years, the Nobles community is thrilled to come together on campus on Marathon Monday, April 18, 2022, to make Nobles a more accessible school for students and families. Students, parents and friends will run, walk, bike and erg, keeping up this beloved Nobles tradition. Many also will participate by sharing photos and/or videos of themselves in action on Instagram or using Strava or Peloton with #moveforNobles. Please feel free to join in person or virtually—the more participants the better!

The impact of the Marathon Fund has never been stronger and the need for scholarship at Nobles has never been greater. This year the fund, which is the second largest scholarship fund at Nobles, will support the financial aid needs of ELEVEN students due to the incredible generosity of nearly 1,500 donors over the decades. To date, the fund has supported over 50 individual Nobles students.

To get involved, come to Nobles campus on Marathon Monday or join the third annual #moveforNobles campaign from anywhere and tag Nobles in your post or story on social media. You can also participate using Strava or Peloton with #moveforNobles. Lastly, you can make a gift to the fund by visiting, www.nobles.edu/giveonline (please write ‘Nobles Marathon Fund’ in the designation field).

We look forward to cheering each other on while we give back what we can on April 18, just like Butch and Bill always did!
